Grade 4 Unit 2 Addition and Subtraction

Unit 2 -  Addition and Subtraction

Content Emphasis/ Big Ideas

Students extend their knowledge of place value to numbers in the millions. Students increase their estimation skills and develop understandings of equality and the properties of addition

Students apply these understandings and skills to increase their computational fluency and accuracy with addition and subtraction and to solve various types of multistep practical problems involving addition and subtraction. Students also explore numerical patterns.

Standards:

  • MTH.G4.1.a Read, write, and identify the place and value of each digit in a nine-digit whole number. (PRS 1)
  • MTH.G4.1.b Compare and order whole numbers expressed through millions. (PRS 1)
  • MTH.G4.1.c Round whole numbers expressed through millions to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousand. (PRS 1)
  • MTH.G4.4.b Estimate and determine sums and differences of whole numbers (numbers each 999,999 or less). (PRS 2)
  • MTH.G4.4.d Create and solve single-step and multistep practical problems involving addition and subtraction with whole numbers. (PRS 2)
  • MTH.G4.15 Identify, describe, create, and extend patterns found in objects, pictures, numbers, and tables (numerical). (PRS 6)
  • MTH.G4.16 Recognize and demonstrate the meaning of equality in an equation. (PRS 6)
