Gr 6 Unit 9 Data Distributions
Unit 9 Data Distributions
Content Emphasis/ Big Ideas
In this unit, students apply knowledge of fractions, decimals, and percents to the creation and interpretation of circle graphs. Students also work with measures of center to determine how changes in the data affect the mean, median, and mode. Students then learn how to use a line plot to describe mean as a balance point. Previous knowledge of other types of data representations may be revisited in this unit (i.e., bar graphs, line plots, line graphs, and pictographs) by comparing representations of the same data.
Standards:
- MTH.G6.10.a Represent data in a circle graph. (PRS 5)
- MTH.G6.10.b Make observations and inferences about data represented in a circle graph. (PRS 5)
- MTH.G6.10.c Compare circle graphs with the same data represented in bar graphs, pictographs, and line plots. (PRS 5)
- MTH.G6.11.a Represent the mean of a data set graphically as the balance point. (PRS 5)
- MTH.G6.11.b Determine the effect on measure of center when a single value of a data set is added, removed, or changed. (PRS 5)
