Grade 5 Math Unit 8 Geometry
Unit 8 Geometry
Content Emphasis/ Big Ideas
Students explore plane figures and their attributes. Students learn how to measure and classify angles. Generalizations are made about attributes such as angles, sides, and diagonals in order to derive definitions for various plane figures. Subsequently, these same attributes are used to classify and name various plane figures, such as triangles.
Standards:
- 5.MG.2 The student will use multiple representations to solve problems, including those in context, involving perimeter, area, and volume.
- 5.MG.3 The student will classify and measure angles and triangles, and solve problems, including those in context.
Skills:
- Classify and Measure Right, Acute, Obtuse and Straight Angles
- Classify Triangles as Right, Acute, or Obtuse, Equilateral, Scalene or Isosceles
- Perimeter, Area and Volume Problem Solving
- Interior Angles of a Triangle
