Content Emphasis/ Big Ideas

Students compare and contrast all the components that are needed to create geometric figures such as line segments, points, and angles. They expand their knowledge of identifying, describing, comparing, and contrasting plane and geometric figures. This knowledge is applied to exploring properties of quadrilaterals. In addition, non-numerical patterns are studied through transformations of polygons.

Standards:

  • MTH.G4.10.a Identify and describe points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles, including endpoints and vertices. 
  • MTH.G4.10.b Identify and describe intersecting, parallel, and perpendicular lines. 
  • MTH.G4.11 Identify, describe, compare, and contrast plane and solid figures according to their characteristics (number of angles, vertices, edges, and the number and shape of faces) using concrete models and pictorial representations. 
  • MTH.G4.12 Classify quadrilaterals as parallelograms, rectangles, squares, rhombi, and/or trapezoids.
  • MTH.G4.15 Identify, describe, create, and extend patterns found in objects, pictures, numbers, and tables (geometric).
