Grade 2 Math Unit 8 Geometry
Unit 8 Geometry
Content Emphasis/ Big Ideas
In this unit, students develop ideas about two- and three-dimensional shapes. Students sort, categorize, and name geometric figures. They analyze and describe relationships among the figures. Students also learn about symmetry and connect their understandings of numeric patterns to geometric patterns.
Standards:
- MTH.G2.12.a Draw a line of symmetry in a figure.
- MTH.G2.12.b Identify and create figures with at least one line of symmetry.
- MTH.G2.13 Identify, describe, compare, and contrast plane and solid figures (circles/spheres, squares/cubes, and rectangles/rectangular prisms)
- MTH.G2.16 Identify, describe, create, extend, and transfer patterns found in objects, pictures, and numbers.
