Grade 5 :Unit 3: Computation with Whole Numbers

Unit 3: Computation with Whole Numbers

How does the content emphasis come to life in this unit?

In this unit, students investigate properties and rules that govern the way in which numbers operate.  They refine and extend understandings of division of whole numbers and apply their understanding of computation and strategies to solve multistep problems.  Students also apply their computation skills to use number patterns to solve algebraic problems.

Standards:

5.CE.1 The student will estimate, represent, solve, and justify solutions to single-step and multistep contextual problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers.

5.PFA.1 The student will identify, describe, extend, and create increasing and decreasing patterns with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, including those in context, using various representations.

Skills:

  1. Single and Multistep Problems
  2. 2 digit Division with remainders
  3. Multiplication & Division word problems
  4. Algebraic Number Patterns
