The Region 4 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Mr. James Marotta, currently the assistant principal at Bull Run Elementary School, has been selected as the new principal of Bull Run Elementary School.  

Mr. Marotta began his career as a special education teacher in New York.  In 2013, Mr. Marotta joined Fairfax County Public Schools as an Enhanced Autism Teacher at Navy Elementary School.  Throughout his career with FCPS, Mr. Marotta has served in multiple teaching and leadership roles including Behavior Intervention Teacher, Special Education Teacher, and Local Screening Chair.  Mr. Marotta served as Assistant Principal at Navy Elementary School from 2020-2023 and was named Assistant Principal at Bull Run Elementary School in 2023.

Throughout his career, Mr. Marotta has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering academic excellence and supporting the social-emotional growth of students.  With a steadfast commitment to student success, Mr. Marotta works tirelessly to create an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.  Mr. Marotta values transparent and honest communication and works to build strong partnerships with families that best serve students.

Mr. Marotta earned an Education Specialist Degree from the George Washington University in Educational Leadership and Administration, a Master’s Degree with dual certification in Special Education and Childhood Education from Long Island University, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the State University of New York at Old Westbury.  Mr. Marotta holds Virginia State Professional Licensure with endorsements in School Leadership and Administration PreK-12, Special Education-General Curriculum PreK-12 and General Education K-6.  

Having grown up in Long Island, NY, Mr. Marotta is a huge NY sports fan (Jets, Knicks, Mets and Syracuse University).  He and his wife have three wonderful children and recently welcomed a new puppy to their home.  When they aren’t busy with children’s activities, they enjoy spending time at the beach, watching movies, and going to fun places as a family.

Mr. Marotta is excited to collaborate with staff, students, and families to continue building a positive and enriching learning environment at Bull Run Elementary School.
